AU } Maybe in another life, we wouldn't be alone tonight
Saturdays were always big days, but today, well, it was even bigger.
The World Museum was open to the trawls of parents and children that flooded in every weekend, a spell of bad weather driving in an even bigger amount than normal. What also helped, was the fact that a new space exhibition had arrived on the science level, one that Melody Pond had been angling for some time, and today was the big opening.
It had taken a lot of hard work and a lot of money, but it was finally here, and Melody was practically bursting with excitement as she zoomed around the museum, making sure everything was going smoothly. She'd heard there might be some special guests making a visit later, the kind of special guest that could possibly see her head hunted. Therefore, everything had to be running perfectly.
Passing one of her colleagues, Melody stopped him with a hand on the arm, requesting in hopefully pleading voice that usually got her her own way.
"Malcolm, would you mind standing by for the 3D showing? Just make sure everything goes to plan? Thank you, sweetie."
He was all too happy to oblige, which was why Melody had asked him in particular, and she watched him go with knowing look, unable to feel much happier than she did in this moment. With her hands by her sides, she did a little spin on the spot before she bounced off to continue with her duties, nothing able to wipe the smile from her face.
Everything was going to plan.

And it's an act that continues for quite some time, sometimes harder, sometimes softer, but never too much, never pushing too hard, not for this, not for what he's sure she needs. He makes sure to look into her eyes, makes sure to show her just how much he desires her. It's when he kisses her his actions speed, when he kisses her that he seems to lose himself into something so much deeper.
no subject
But then it didn't quite feel that way. There was something in the way he touched her and kissed her that made it feel like they'd known each other far longer. She relaxed in his arms, she trusted every touch he gave her, but she couldn't explain why.
Hours later, she lay there beneath him, breathing heavily, feeling her head spin in the most wonderful way and her body released of the tension it had been carrying for so long. She's relaxed, deliriously so, and she chuckles as she looks towards him, a smile on her face and her hair wilder than ever.
no subject
As she laughs so too does he, smiling at her before leaning in for a slow indulgent kiss.
"Well, you look like you enjoyed yourself." he says as his body pulls free from hers, glancing down to check the spent condom. He shifts a little, off her, to the side on the bed, waiting a moment before he needs to slip away to the bathroom and discard the used sheath.
"You know you're not half loud once you get going," he teases, playful.
no subject
"I didn't hear your complaining," she points out just as playfully. If anything, he had rather encouraged it.
no subject
"Didn't your phone go earlier?" he calls back as he discards the condom, taking only a moment before he heads back out, finding one of the plastic cups they used earlier for the terrible wine and going instead to fill it with water. He brings the cup back towards the bed, taking a sip before passing it towards her.
"Here."
no subject
Cursing under her breath, she opens the screen, quickly typing a message to her son to assure him she was fine and to explain the situation with the trains. She also made up a white lie about being out of signal before she drops the phone back in her bag.
"I completely forgot. My son was expecting me ages ago."
no subject
He moves back over to the bed, sliding himself onto the dishevelled sheets, looking over towards her as she rifles through her bag. "Ooh bend over a little more," he says, teasingly. "I should take a picture."
no subject
no subject
"Ooh hello," he smirks as she comes back over, and wonders a moment if he won't need to maybe find another of those condoms he purchased.
He reaches out, his hand on her hip.
"You are incredibly sexy," he tells her. "God see look I'm getting all hard again just thinking about you." He isn't lying, his body twitching, if perhaps not quite so much as his words imply.
"Where's that phone?" he says then, referring to hers she just held in her hand.
no subject
Stopping just in front of him, she glances down expectantly at his words, before back at him with a telling smirk.
When he asks for her phone, she goes to sit down, nodding slightly behind her. "In my bag. Why?"
no subject
no subject
"What do you need it for?" she asks, handing it to him.
no subject
"Oh that's it, right there, just like that," he makes an overblown moaning noise, teasing but quite enjoying it too.
There's a grin on his face when she hands over his phone, and he keys away at it, entering a number.
"I'm saving my number," he tells her, looking towards her.
"I'd like to see you again, Mels. If you'd like to see me."
no subject
"Oh," she says gently, before she begins to smile, nodding her head at him. "Yes, I'd like that."
no subject
"Right then," he says, a twinkle in his eye "what say we fit one more in before midnight."
no subject
"What? Haven't you had enough for one night?" she teases.
no subject
"You really have no idea."
But luckily, he intends to clear things up a little.
no subject
In the light of day, quite literally, it all seems a little clearer.
Carefully shifting back a little, she looks up at him as he sleeps, utterly relaxed against her. It's been so long since she last woke up like this, in the arms of another, and she feels herself aching for that. They might have swapped numbers the night before, but it'll remain to be seen if that means anything. She hopes it does, even if that sentiment makes her want to roll her eyes at herself, and she sighs as she lays her chin down upon his chest, looking out of the window and at the grey morning sky.
no subject
"Hey," he says sleepily. "Morning you."
It's nice to have here there, he thinks. But then he always does enjoy waking up with another. Waking with her.
no subject
"Morning," she whispers, as to not bombard him with sound too early. "Sorry. Did I wake you?" she asks, beginning to lift herself a little, her hand resting upon his chest.
no subject
"What time is it?" he asks lazily, as he watches her, a touch amused in his morning daze at just how wild her hair looks. But then after a night like they had, it's hardly surprising.
no subject
"I'd better get dressed," she sighs, pushing back the covers and sitting up, stretching in a way that exposes the whole of her bare back to him.
no subject
"Fuck, I should be gone by now. I've got to be at work. We're stocktaking." He had hoped they might have a little more enjoyment this morning, but it seems not to be.
Still tired, he drags himself from the bed and lazily reaches for his clothes, pulling on his underwear and jeans in one go.
no subject
In the mirror, she tries to make her hair behave, but it remains ever wild, and in the end, she lets it do just that. No clips, just pure curls.
no subject
"Where do you need to get to?" he asks, hopping a little as he pulls his boots on, one after another.
"Sorry, I'd have stopped and got us breakfast or something if I didn't have to get back."
