AU } Maybe in another life, we wouldn't be alone tonight

Saturdays were always big days, but today, well, it was even bigger.

The World Museum was open to the trawls of parents and children that flooded in every weekend, a spell of bad weather driving in an even bigger amount than normal. What also helped, was the fact that a new space exhibition had arrived on the science level, one that Melody Pond had been angling for some time, and today was the big opening.

It had taken a lot of hard work and a lot of money, but it was finally here, and Melody was practically bursting with excitement as she zoomed around the museum, making sure everything was going smoothly. She'd heard there might be some special guests making a visit later, the kind of special guest that could possibly see her head hunted. Therefore, everything had to be running perfectly.

Passing one of her colleagues, Melody stopped him with a hand on the arm, requesting in hopefully pleading voice that usually got her her own way.

"Malcolm, would you mind standing by for the 3D showing? Just make sure everything goes to plan? Thank you, sweetie."

He was all too happy to oblige, which was why Melody had asked him in particular, and she watched him go with knowing look, unable to feel much happier than she did in this moment. With her hands by her sides, she did a little spin on the spot before she bounced off to continue with her duties, nothing able to wipe the smile from her face.

Everything was going to plan.

Her eyes close, only able to imagine how he looked right now, able to imagine the actions he was doing, the way his body moved as he did them. All because of her.

Though the sentiment could've been better worded, it does make her smile to hear she's clearly made quite the impression, that he should choose her amongst all the other women he could have, women who undoubtably made more sense.

It emboldens her a little more, and she pulls the covers back over herself as she replies, feeling confident to say things on the phone more than she would in person.

"Imagine me doing that now," she murmurs, imagining it herself and already starting to feel a little flustered again. "My lips wrapped around you. You like my lips, don't you?"

As soon as she starts talking, starts describing, his voice twists, a clear change as his moans grow, the effect almost instant.

"Oh fuck yeah," he glances down at himself as he continues to touch, continues to imagine. "That soft mouth..." his words are hardly fully formed thoughts, fleeting as he listens to her speak.

"Go on," he urges, almost desperately.

She can tell it's had quite the effect on him, and it seems she must continue. After all, it wouldn't be fair to leave him hanging like that. So, she pushes past her uncertainty, ignoring the fact it makes her blush, to describe to him exactly what she would do if she was there now.

"Imagine me starting off slowly," she says, finding it easier to describe as a fantasy, even though it could well come true. "Just taking you little by little. Not too fast. Not too soon. Using my tongue against you. Moving my head in closer. You could move too if you wanted to, I wouldn't mind."

It's doing exactly as she intends, because his breaths quicken, hurried, desperate.

"I like it nice and slow," he tells her, through gasping breaths, a slight admittance of something she can use for later. He imagines his hand curling into her hair, those amazing curls of hers.

"Fuck I'm so close," he breathes.

"I like it slow too," she murmurs, feeling her body shift slightly on the bed again, heating up from the sound of his voice as he gets nearer and nearer.

"But right at the last moment, we could go faster. I could take it. I'd give you everything I've got. I want to make you come as hard as you did before."

"Oh yeah I'd like to fuck your mouth," he groans, barely holding onto his words. His moans start to get louder, increasing moment by moment.

"Oh yeah, oh fuck yeah I'm gonna come, I'm--" but his words get lost as instead he moans, loud as he erupts against his hand, still touching himself, gasping for breath.

"Christ, Melody."

She listens to him, hearing that build up, aware that any moment it would happen, and when it did, she couldn't help but feel more than a little pleased with herself.

Rolling onto her back, she smirked up at the ceiling, her knees pressing towards as she lies there.

"Well, that sounded pretty hard from where I'm sitting."

Her words make him laugh, and he glances down over himself, looking at the fruits of his labour.

"Yeah I've got come everywhere," he tells her plainly. "I'm gonna need to change my sheets." Another laugh. "You're good at that, you know." Something tells him, even drunk as he is, she doesn't make a habit of phone sex.

And then, just to add a little more.

"You know I really would like to suck on those tits."

Melody laughs quietly, both a little flustered and yet smug at the fact he'd made such a mess because of her. She bites at her lip shyly as she listens to him speak, chuckling again when he repeats one of the things he'd like to do.

"Well, maybe we should meet up again," she suggests, letting her suggestion hang, giving him time to think on it. "I'm down in London next week for work, I'll be stopping over."

Maybe they could make all those wants a reality.

"Yeah I'd like that," he says with a lazy smile. It's not just the thought of meeting her for sex, of course. It's just seeing her. He wants to see her. Wants to spend time with her.

"D'you want to go for dinner or something?" he asks, wiping his hand over his stomach. It might not be a question she expects, but it's one she's going to get.

"Yes, I'd like that," she agrees, smiling at the thought. For as much as she'd enjoy the sex, she enjoys the whole experience, of feeling special, being cared for. "In fact, there's this one place I've really been meaning to try. Maybe we could go there?"

"Yeah, yeah sounds good," he tells her. But truth be told he's likely not sober enough to be making decisions. At least, however, he's well aware of that fact.

"Just give me a call about it tomorrow. I'm at work til 6. Phone me after and we'll sort it out. It'll be good, okay? It'll be fun."

"Alright," she replies, realising they should probably try sleeping again, despite the rather interesting interruption. "I'll talk to you tomorrow." There's a pause and it's hard to hide the smile in her voice. "Goodnight, James."

It's nice, that promise of something new. Going to sleep knowing there'll be something more. There's a smile on his face. Anticipation, excitement, the sign that things are starting.

"I'll look forward to it," he tells her. "Night Mels."

Later that week, with no train disruptions, Melody finds herself in London for a conference. It's one of those trips in which she could make the two hour trip home each evening, but that's not necessary when you're in the role she's in, and the hotel is ready and paid for.

After a busy day, she heads back to the hotel to change, rather excited about her plans tonight. She's seeing James again, for the first time since their meeting, and she's pretty sure of how it's going to end. For that reason, she's taken a little extra care in getting ready, and this time had the chance to wear her favourite bra, which she's sure he'll appreciate. He can probably appreciate sooner rather than later too, thanks to rather tight fit of her dress.

With her curls left down around her shoulders (she's already learning of his preferences,) Melody's soon ready, and sets off into the night to hail a cab, and meet James at their pre-booked restaurant. She can't deny she's been looking forward to this, and he's been in her thoughts all week, especially since that 2am conversation. Since then, she's been wanting to see him in person, and tonight's her chance.

When Melody told him the name of the restaurant, James had the wherewithal to google it. It's hardly his usual sort of place, something he maybe needs to look a little smarter for. He still wears a pair of jeans (just this time he's washed them), but this time he's been out and purchased a shirt. He looks sharp, if he does say so himself.

He arrives at the restaurant just a few minutes late, wearing maybe a tad more aftershave than he needs to (the nice one Sal got him for christmas). It's a bit posh for him, but he doesn't act too out of place.

he tells the waiter he's here to see someone, and before long he's being led over to a table.

Having already been seated, Melody awaits James. She checks her watch every now and then, and hopes he's merely running late, as opposed to getting cold feet. She sits there, tending to her nerves with a large glass of wine, when she sees James being led towards her. Her expression transforms into a bright smile, and she moves to stand to her feet.

"Hello, James," she says, suddenly very conscious of how long it had been since they'd seen each other last, and how unfortunate it was they were meeting in a public place. However, she's confident things were turn a little more private, which is partially why she's made quite an effort. with her own outfit too. Before, she'd been dressed for work, and while that was very stylish, it wasn't as flattering as what she had on now.

As soon as he sees her, a warm smile spreads across James' face.

"Mels," he smiles, stepping over and putting a hand on her arm, as he leans in to press his lips gently to her cheek. "God you look amazing."

He gestures back to the seat before moving to take his own, pausing first to shrug from his leather jacket and put it over the back of the chair.

"How was your work thing?"

She smiles when he kisses at her cheek, letting it linger for just a moment before she pulls back. "Thank you," she says at his compliment, flattered as she goes and takes her seat once again. "You don't look so bad yourself," she notes, for he'd cleaned up rather well.

Melody had hoped he would notice she'd made an effort, for she's normally a little more understated on a night out. She's also conscious of dressing too young for her age, but there's no issue with that tonight. If anything, the outfit makes her look younger than she is.

"Oh, it went really well. Basically a long day talking to lots of important people," she waves her hand to dismiss the more boring details. "How about you? How did your day go?"

Her question makes him laugh, especially when set against her previous statement.

"Oh yeah yeah, full of important people too. Sold a blu-ray to a bloke from the council and saw someone off X-Factor in KFC. You know how it is. Never stopping." His smile is a little wry, and his eyes flick over her a little, appreciative but not out of place.

"So you hungry?" he asks, opening up the menu that the waiter had set down in front of them. He looks at the prices and is thankful he's just got paid.

She laughs at his response, nodding her head as she goes to take the menu. "Someone off the X-Factor? I think you just topped my day," she jokes.

Opening the menu, her eyes eagerly wander what's available, and she already knows it's going to be a difficult choice. "Oh, I'm starving," she tells him, glancing over the menu. "I must've spent nearly three hours stood talking in that conference. And all they had for refreshments were the tiniest canapés I've ever seen!"

"Really?" he asks, all mock serious. "The tiniest? Blimey you should complain. However did you cope?" he's teasing, of course, and the look in his eyes says as much.

"Did you want wine?" he asks, grabbing the wine list off the table, an audible intake of breath when he sees the prices. "The eh, merlot looks okay," he says. Of course it's also one of the cheaper on the menu.

"Shut up," she murmurs playfully, soon catching on that he's poking fun at her. When he goes for the wine list, she sits forward, certainly intrigued by the mention of wine. "I just got a glass of the Rippon, so we could get a bottle of that if you like?"

It's not quite as cheap as the merlot, but thankfully not as expensive as some of the others either. Unfortunately it doesn't quite cross her mind that he might find this place pricey, but then that's what happens when you get used to living comfortably. Your definition of expensive changes.

He doesn't answer at first, his eyes finding the price before there's any reply. It's more than he would hope for, but he'll manage, and so he just smiles, setting the menu down.

"Rippon it is."

He leans his elbows forward on the table, looking at her with a smile.

"So how you been, Mels? How's life since we last spoke." Not that they spoke much about life.

When he sits forward, she does too, settling her chin on her hand and smiling at him across the table. She arches an eyebrow knowingly at his words, for the last time they 'spoke' had been rather memorable indeed.

"Life's been good," she tells him, her smile widening somewhat. Good, ever since he came into it, but she doesn't say that. It might be a little too much, and she's still trying to work out what kind of relationship they have here. Given they're out for what feels like a date, she's hoping by tonight, she'll know one way or another.

"We got another good review for the space exhibit," she goes on, finding it easier to act like its work that's been making her happy lately. "That's five of them now, and one in a national paper too!"
